Un poste de mesure décrit l'endroit où il est installé : un poste de bord de mer reste plus frais que le village à trois kilomètres dans les terres, un poste de sommet plus frais que la vallée. Chaque ligne cite son poste et son altitude.
Un été ne compte que si ses trois mois sont relevés presque chaque jour ; un poste, s'il compte au moins 7 étés complets sur les dix. Les nuits à 20 °C, dites tropicales, sont celles où le sommeil devient difficile. Pour choisir un mois plutôt qu'un autre, voir où partir selon la saison.
